We're delighted to inform you that we've been granted funding to have a business plan drawn up!

On the 15/06/17 we recieved the news that we've been granted £13941 from the Scottish Land Fund to be used to have a feasibility study, revaluation of the property and a five year business plan prepared. This grant aid also constitutes an invitation to apply for the next stage funding, which would be to buy the property and pay associated fees, as well as pay professionals to develop detailed plans of site developments.

Consultant:

  • After a rigorous tendering and selection process we have chosen Community Enterprise Ltd to do the feasibility study and write the business plan, and also to assist us in achieving the next stage of funding.

  • Update from Community Enterprise: Alison from Community Enterprise visited our community on 4th and 5th July and we gave her a tour of the area. Having considered the results from our Survey, Alison started holding meetings with some stakeholders including Shetlands Islands Council, the first of many conversations planned over the coming weeks. We then had a detailed discussion about our plans for the Aald Skul and Alison has a long list of research to follow up and people to speak to. Community Enterprise will return to Nesting for meetings in August.

  • Public Meeting – we plan to hold a public meeting on Thursday 17th August at South Nesting Public Hall at 7.00pm. This will be an open “drop in” event and we would like you all to come along as this will be an opportunity to have your say and speak to Alison and her colleague about how you would use the building and services planned for it. We will advertise this in local press and radio and will put posters up locally as reminders but please put this date into your diaries now. We’d love to see you there and hear what you think.

Survey results:

  • We've finished our survey, and counting the results across Nesting and Girlsta: 140 people are interested in a gym, 59 in an allotment, 67 in a music-practise space, 90 in using a workshop, 32 in business start-up space, 61 in outside storage, 59 in a 3D printer, 19 in document storage, 60 in childcare, and 73 in joining our group!

Other news:

  • We have completed our project to renovate the local cemeteries. A huge thank you to Andy Armstrong for his help with this project, and a special thanks to Andrew Hughson and Terry Hunter for their help as well!

  • We're still raising about £100 a week with the Scrap Store; our total raised including donations is now over £5000. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.

  • We are holding an Extraordinary General Meeting on the 1st August at 8pm in the South Nesting hall; this is to agree the content of our constitution and formally create our company—please can all who are interested attend! New members welcome.
