Community Development Company of Nesting CDCN

Newsletter No 6, May 2019 [DOWNLOAD HERE]

We're pleased to state that all is going well; we have won more funding, we have builders lined up, we have a capable new Development Officer and further projects are being pursued.

Employment of Development Officer:

Due to circumstances outwith our control our first Development Officer has moved on; we are now employing Laura Saunders, she's doing very well, a great asset, and she will be writing subsequent newsletters.

Grants:

We have worked very hard through the winter to secure funding for the building work, and we are very grateful to the four funders from whom we have received backing:

  • LEADER: £105,688.56

  • Communities Trust SUEZ: £44,851

  • SIC Economic Development: £25,000

  • The Robertson Trust: £20,000

Building work:

We have accepted Shetland Construction and Development as our builders. The contract has been signed and building work will commence through the summer and be complete by Christmas. We will be totally renovating the Victorian building and doing substantial work on the hut buildings, thereby providing the gym, office space and a better home for the Nesting Local History Group.

Other news:

  • CDCN is now registered for VAT, but to avoid charging gym users and Scrap-store patrons VAT we are creating a new company—Aald Skül Enterprises, which will be a non-VAT registered subsidiary.

  • The Scrap-store is now being consolidated into the hut building where it will remain. It's still earning on a par with last year. Thank you all for your on-going support—please do continue to donate, and to shop aside us.

  • We anticipate the launch of our website this summer—we'll keep you posted.

  • We have set up a sub-committee to pursue the provision of childcare.

  • We are considering outline plans for new buildings in which further amenities will be provided; we will shortly host an event at the South Nesting Public Hall to introduce our ideas and seek your feedback.

  • CDCN is offering the opportunity to be a treasurer; this is a voluntary position at director level and, once familiar with the role, should just involve an hour or two of input a week. Managing CDCN's money is an important task, as this money helps develop the whole community. You'll also be a part of CDCN's decision-making process, thereby helping guide the future direction of CDCN. Please 'phone Ellis on 890 288 if you're interested.

We will issue another newsletter in a few months’ time if all goes well.
