What matters here, what could be better, and what should happen next? Help shape the Nesting and Lunnasting Local Place Plan at our community drop-ins on Thursday 17th September 2026, from 4–8pm at both South Nesting Hall and Vidlin Hall.

Nesting and Lunnasting Community Council and the Community Development Company of Nesting (CDCN) invite you to drop in at either venue:

South Nesting Hall — Thursday 17th September 2026, 4–8pm
Vidlin Hall — Thursday 17th September 2026, 4–8pm

Come for five minutes or stay for a blether. There will be maps and information to look at, with plenty of opportunity to mark ideas on the maps, point out places that matter, and share what you think should happen next. Drop in whenever it suits you during the session — everyone is very welcome.

What is a Local Place Plan?

A Local Place Plan is a community-led plan for the future of an area. It sets out what people value and want to protect, what could work better, and proposals for how land and buildings could be used or developed.

For Nesting and Lunnasting, that means looking at the things that shape everyday life: homes, transport and paths, halls and local services, jobs and businesses, opportunities for children and young people, and the natural environment and places we care about.

If you live, work, study, run a business or care about the area, your views can help shape the plan.

Building on what you have already told us

We are building on the Nesting, Girlsta and Wadbister Community Action Plan, previous consultation and an existing draft Local Place Plan. More recent work in Lunnasting, including with children and young people, will also help inform the plan.

The next step is to bring that evidence together, check what still matters and what has changed, and make sure communities across both Nesting and Lunnasting are properly reflected. Your ideas will help identify shared priorities, local differences and the places where improvements are needed.

Helping shape Shetland’s next Local Development Plan

The aim is to turn local priorities into clear proposals that can inform Shetland’s next Local Development Plan and help influence future planning, investment and decisions affecting our area. Registered Local Place Plans must be taken into account by Shetland Islands Council when it prepares the next Local Development Plan. Read more in the council’s Local Place Plan guidance.
