Newsletter No 13, May/ June 2022

INTRODUCTION FROM NEW DEVELOPMENT OFFICER:

Hello to everyone. My name is Mark Ratter, and I have recently started in the Development Officer role with CDCN. Having previously worked in community development both within Shetland (most recently with the NCDC) and internationally, I’m very much looking forward to working on CDCN’s various projects, as well as with the wider Nesting community. Ellis and the CDCN team have been great in helping me to become familiarised with all project activities from the last few years. I also look forward to meeting folk within the community over the coming weeks and months, and anyone wishing to get in contact can reach me on

01595 890 770, or at developmentofficer@cdcn.co.uk

COMMUNITY PROJECTS:

We are delighted to have received planning permission for the next two phases of our community projects at the Aald Skül – firstly a small-scale expansion of the existing Scrapstore with associated access and parking, and secondly for the provision of community Polycrubs and allotments to the back of the buildings. The approved plans can be viewed on the Shetland Islands Council website: https://pa.shetland.gov.uk/online-applications/ with the following Reference No: 2021/338/PPF.

To understand better how these new projects (and some of our other ideas) might benefit the community, we enclose a short questionnaire for you to complete which will give us valuable insight into how we should go about developing these facilities. If you can spare a couple of minutes to complete the questionnaire, it would be much appreciated, and you can get it back to us in one of the following ways:

SCRAPSTORE (SUN: 2-5PM; WED: 1-3PM):

Thanks to Vic, Lynda and the team – and of course all our customers, the Scrapstore is still going strong, and we are now over 2.5k followers on Facebook! We are continuing to open on Sundays and Wednesdays as standard, and private viewings can be arranged if desired. We are also pleased to confirm that we will be able to accept card payments at the Scrapstore in the very near future!

As ever, we are always looking for new volunteers to join our great team, so if you are interested, either pop in along when we are open, or contact us through the ‘Nesting Scrapstore’ Facebook page. Finally, a big thank you to those who continue to donate items for the Scrapstore and please keep them coming in.

NESTING GYM:

Thanks largely to the efforts of our dedicated Gym Management Team, the gym remains as popular as ever, and we now have over 150 gym members! The lifting of Covid-19 restrictions has meant that Nesting Gym members have been able to book and attend the gym with other members from up to six different households at the same time. As always though, the gym can also still be booked by individual members, couples and family groups. Anyone wishing to join the gym and receive an induction can contact the Development Officer at: developmentofficer@cdcn.co.uk. For gym bookings and other gym information, please visit our website at: www.cdcn.co.uk/gym.
